PMI Leadership Institute Meeting @ London on May 8-10, 2015

Blog

The annual PMI® Leadership Institute Meeting took place in London this year. More than 300 board members from PMI® met in a nice and convenient location called ExCel, while three board members represented our local chapter.

The main benefit participating at LIM is the opportunity to connect with fellow PMI chapter leaders and gather inspiration from each other while strengthen our leadership skills to benefit the chapter operations.

Main areas presented at LIM were related to Academic Programmes, Marketing, PMI Chapter Development, PMI Educational Foundation, Volunteer Programmes and Services, PMI updates.

From a 3-days meeting only a few highlights are given as an example to show how important and useful our participation was.

  • Learn about the exciting ways that PMI’s Academic Programmes are helping to advance the profession through university/college engagement and academic resources. How can our community help to create and share project management knowledge with the project managers of tomorrow?
  • Learn about Marketing programmes and how they could help our chapter to acquire new members and retain current ones as well as to produce promotional materials.
  • Learn ways to enhance chapter performance through PMI programmes and services. It’s all about value!
  • Leverage project management for social good. Bring project management to primary and secondary schools and nonprofit organizations.
  • Make the most of our volunteer experience with PMI through Volunteer Relationship Management System (VRMS) and discover even more career-enhancing opportunities.
  • Changes on the Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) Program.

Apart from the above, the participants had the chance to attend inspirational speeches from three excellent keynote speakers.

Vinh Giang. Be an Influencer. Through the psychology behind magic, Vinh relays powerful messages about positive thinking and how an individual reacts to different situations in life and business. Vinh inspired all attendees with all his wisdom, life experience, suggestive power and magician performance so that he got a standing ovation at the end of his show.

Erin Meyer. The Culture Map: Breaking through the Invisible Boundaries of Global Business. With a great enthusiasm and experience Erin explained how the ignorance of cultural differences can lead to disastrous situations which we as project managers can easily get involved due to an increasing globalization.

Nigel Barlow. Creative Leadership. Nigel demonstrated with his unique way how creative leadership gives individuals “aha moments” about the impact of their own style, then moves swiftly from insight to action: inspiring the behavior in leaders that inspires creative change in their own organisations.

Thanks to a great preparation and support from the PMI® UK Chapter combined with contributions from all speakers, PMI® LIM 2015 EMEA was a success to everyone being involved. By looking on all results and networking opportunities, it is a must for chapter leaders to join the LIM in the near future as well.
